Did you know April is National Lawn and Garden Month? We already shared with you How to Prepare Your Garden for Summer, so today I’d like to share some lawn care tips, so yours is the greenest yard on the block!
- 1. Treat weeds-Getting rid of weeds right when they pop up is important. Things like dandelions and clover pop up quickly and spread easily. Spring and fall are typically the best times to get rid of them. It’s also important to prevent them and you can do so with weed prevents early in the season.
- 2. Fertilize- Fertilizer is essentially food for your yard, so it’s important for healthy growth! Most lawn experts will recommend fertilizing at least twice a year: once in the spring and once in the fall.
- 3. Water- Most regions don’t get enough rainfall to probably keep your lawn hydrated, so it’s important to water it during the hot summer months.
- 4. Mow- This one seems pretty obvious right? But when and how often you mow can have a big impact on your yard! Some people like to stick to a schedule and mow once a week, but in the spring when grass grows quickly it could need it more often. Be careful though- it’s easy to cut your lawn too short. Longer grass helps grow strong roots and keeps the ground shaded and prevents it from drying out quickly. Experts suggest raising your blade to the highest level and only cutting about a third off the top of your lawn when you mow.
